Location: Disaster shelters (local, regional, or national)
Be a steady presence when everything feels uncertain. As a Sheltering Team Volunteer, you work inside Red Cross shelters to provide emotional support, reassurance, and stability for individuals and families displaced by disaster.
This role is ideal for volunteers who are calm under pressure, compassionate listeners, and confident navigating challenging situations.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide a welcoming, supportive presence for shelter residents
- Offer moral and emotional support during stressful and emotional moments
- Assist with day‑to‑day shelter operations (reception, dormitory, feeding, information, etc.)
- Help de‑escalate conflicts and support a respectful, safe shelter environment
- Work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and shelter leadership
