Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Writer for Northumberland County, Virginia
Overview:
Northumberland County is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Grant
Writer to lead the County’s grant-seeking and administration efforts. This volunteer
position is responsible for researching, preparing, and submitting grant
proposals, as well as managing awarded grants to ensure compliance and
successful implementation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely
with County departments and the Board of Supervisors to identify funding
opportunities that align with County goals and priorities.
Role and
Responsibilities:
The volunteer Grant Writer will work closely with the Board of Supervisors, County
administration, and other departments to:
- Research
and identify public and private grant funding opportunities that align with
County needs and strategic objectives.
- Prepare,
write, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and
supporting documents within deadlines.
- Develop
and maintain a comprehensive grants
matrix tracking
application deadlines, awards, reporting requirements, and project progress.
- Coordinate
with County departments to collect data, narratives, and budget information
needed for applications and reports.
- Monitor
awarded grants for compliance with funding agency requirements, including
financial tracking and performance reporting.
- Prepare
and submit follow-up and final reports for funded grants in accordance with
agency guidelines.
- Maintain
detailed grant files and documentation for auditing and reference purposes.
- Communicate
effectively with internal and external stakeholders, funding agencies, and
community partners.
- Interacts
with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure that grant projects comply
with program guidelines for expenditure, funding, and accountability.
- Provide periodic updates and presentations to County administration and Board of Supervisors on grant activity and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in grant writing, public administration, or project management preferred (but not required).
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to collaborate with County staff and community partners.
- Commitment to public service and the betterment of Northumberland County.
Time
Commitment:
Flexible schedule depending on availability and project needs. The role may
include a mix of remote work and in-person collaboration at the County offices
in Heathsville.
