Role Overview:
Human Sheltering Volunteers assist with the setup, operation, and support of
emergency shelters during disasters or large-scale evacuations. These
volunteers play a vital role in ensuring displaced individuals and families
have a safe, clean, and supportive environment during times of crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up shelter facilities, including cots, signage, registration areas, and supply stations.
- Assist with shelter registration and track resident intake and outflow.
- Provide general support to shelter residents, including distributing supplies, answering questions, and directing them to services.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment in sleeping, eating, and common areas.
- Work in coordination with shelter leads, health officials, and other emergency partners.
- Help with emotional support and referrals to professional services when appropriate.
