Do you have a green thumb? Or would you like to learn from expert volunteers how to be a better gardener? Become a volunteer at Historic Christ Church & Museum, and you will work in partnership with Northern Neck Master Gardeners to maintain an attractive and healthy garden as part of the physical beauty of the HCC&M site.
Qualifications:
- Enjoy working outdoors during Spring, Summer and Fall.
- No prior knowledge of herbs or gardening needed. If you are willing to learn, we will train you!
- Ability to commit to 2-3 weeks during open season (April – November).
Responsibilities:
- Volunteers work in pairs whenever possible.
- Weeding in the herb garden and mulched areas around boxwoods. Pruning plants when necessary.
- Sweeping the walk as needed.
- Add/replace plants when needed.
Time Commitment:
- Each volunteer is expected to commit to fill this role 2-3 times each year (approximately 2 hours per shift)
- Flexibility to be assigned to specific week(s) to suit your schedule.
- If volunteer becomes Herb Garden Coordinator, will then also serve on Volunteer Council.
Training and Support:
- Attendance at annual Spring Update & Training is strongly encouraged (3 days in March or early April)
- Initial training provided as well as 1 herb garden-related educational program annually.
- Volunteers will work in teams of two, and you are welcome to schedule yourself with another team member with whom you wish to work.
