Would you like to combine your love of teaching and history? Meet others who share your love of history? You could work with us to provide students in grades 1-12 with educational programs that encourage learning the story of Historic Christ Church and how it connects to the history of Virginia. Become a School Group Docent at Historic Christ Church & Museum!
Qualifications:
- Enjoy working with young people, especially in the area of colonial and HCC history.
- Educational background helpful but not as necessary as patience and a sense of humor.
- Ability to commit to work with a scheduled group.
Responsibilities:
- Engage students through hands-on activities across different stations on the HCC campus.
- Participate in family-oriented activity days to teach visitors about HCC and colonial Virginia.
- Use age-appropriate content and teaching methods.
Time Commitment:
- Programs for grade schoolers run about 3 hours mornings during the school year.
- High school students come for special summer programs that last for 3 to 4 hours.
- Preparation time varies, based on knowledge and experience.
Training and Support:
- Spring Training is strongly encouraged (three days in March or early April).
- You will be provided lesson plans and shadow experienced docents during training.
- Receive ongoing guidance and support from the Director of Programs & Communications.
