Step aboard history! The Deltaville Maritime Museum is seeking a dedicated volunteer to help care for the Explorer, our full-scale replica of Captain John Smith’s shallop used during his 1608 exploration of the Chesapeake Bay. This is a unique opportunity to preserve a living piece of maritime heritage and share its story with visitors. Perform routine upkeep and cleaning of the Explorer. Monitor the vessel for signs of wear, weather damage, or needed repairs. Assist with minor maintenance tasks (e.g., oiling wood, checking lines, clearing debris) Coordinate with museum staff for larger restoration needs. Engage with visitors to share the history and significance of the boat. Help prepare the vessel for special events or educational programs
