On June 2, 1608, after spending more than a year in and around the Jamestown Settlement, Captain John Smith set out on his first voyage to explore and map the whole of Chesapeake Bay. Fourteen men – six gentlemen, seven tradesmen and a “Doctor of Physic” – accompanied him.

Stop by and see Deltaville Maritime Museum's Captain John Smith’s Shallop Explorer – the historic barge that played a pivotal role in this remarkable journey. The Explorer will be on display all weekend, offering three days of opportunity to experience this fascinating piece of history.
