Learning to use color effectively is a foundation for virtually all forms of art, whether it’s water color, acrylics, oil painting, or other creative efforts. In two half-day sessions, those interested in painting and the use of color will learn the following:
Day One : Color mixing using Monochromatic, Complementary and Analogous color scales. As a resource, students will be introduced to Itten’s Color Theories and color theory in art history will be introduced. Paintings by Cezanne, Monet and Van Gogh will be used as examples of intentional color usage. Students will learn how to mix color swatches that can be used as “color maps” for future projects such as quilts, knitting, and paintings.
On Day Two: We will review color mixing and then students will be led to make a small still life painting with their mixed color palettes.
