MUSTER LIST

We're Listening! Tell Us About Your Experience with the Volunteer River Counties Hub

The heart of Volunteer River Counties is the incredible people who give their time to support their communities here--YOU! As we look ahead to the next year, we want to ensure the hub is as useful for you as it is impactful for our community and partner organizations. We are asking for you to take five minutes of your time this week to complete our Annual Volunteer Survey. Your anonymous feedback helps us understand what's working, where we can improve, and how we can better support you.

HUB HIGHLIGHT

Become a Super "Fan": The Secret to Unlocking The Latest Opportunities with your Favorite Organizations

Becoming a "Fan" of your favorite organizations on the Volunteer River Counties hub is the easiest way to ensure you never miss a chance to make a difference!

Why It Matters

  • Instant Notifications: You'll get an automatic email the moment that organization posts a new volunteer opportunity or event.
  • Personalized Dashboard: Your "Fanned" organizations will appear at the top of your volunteer dashboard, making it easier to track your impact and sign up for shifts.
  • Your Privacy is Protected: Organizations you fan will not be informed about your identity or contact details. Becoming a "fan" means ONLY that automated notifications will be sent to you by the hub system (NOT by the organization you've fanned) whenever an organization you've fanned has an opportunity.

How to "Fan" Your Favorites

  1. Log In: Go to Volunteer River Counties and log in to your account.
  2. Find the Organization: Click on the "Organizations" tab in the main navigation menu to browse the full list of partners.
  3. Click "Become a Fan": Once you find an organization you love, look for the big blue "Become a Fan" button near their name and click it.

Don't let the perfect volunteer opportunity pass you by! Log in, find your favorites, and click that blue button to become a fan-it's the simplest way to stay involved and inspired all year long.

Ready When the Call Comes: Volunteer Roles in Emergency Response

As the recent winter storm has reminded us, when a crisis hits-whether it's a natural disaster, a public health emergency, or a local utility outage-our community's resilience can be tested. In these moments, our community partners (like these first responders and emergency management teams) often face a sudden, massive surge in demand for services. While the instinct to rush in and help is a testament to the incredible spirit of our volunteers, effective emergency response requires more than just a willing heart; it requires advanced preparation and coordination.

The Reality of Emergency Volunteering

In an emergency, our partners rely on credentialed and pre-trained volunteers to ensure they are providing the most effective aid without hindering professional services. Training prior to an emergency situation ensures that:

  • Safety is prioritized for both the volunteer and the community members being served.
  • Roles are clearly defined, reducing confusion in high-stress environments.
  • Liability and protocols are managed, allowing organizations to deploy help immediately rather than spending precious hours on orientations.

How to Raise Your Hand (Before the Crisis)

If you are willing to be called up when a local emergency arises, our community partners need to know sooner rather than later! The Volunteer River Counties hub can be used to contact volunteers willing to be mobilized in an emergency. By updating your user profile, we can reach out to you with information on training, resources and potential organizational matches prior to an actual emergency. If you are interested in updating your profile to reflect your willingness to be contacted about volunteering in an emergency, please email the Volunteer River Counties program coordinator: elizabeth@volunteerrivercounties.org.

Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community strong, safe, and supported-no matter what comes our way.
