Menokin is an outdoor cultural heritage site and a National Historic Landmark.
What We Do
Menokin is an outdoor museum site with tours and events. It features three educational pathways for those to come and learn.
The Houses: The Ruin and Remembrance Structure represent the juxtaposition of the early American times for those who would have inhabited them.
The People: The Rappahannock Tribe who gave Menokin its name of place, The Africans who built and maintained the land during a time of forced labor, and the political and patriotic actions of Francis Lightfoot Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
The Land: Originally 1200 acres now 500 with 325 in conservation easement, we focus on the expansive rivers and vast stretches of forests and farmland. Remnants of the 18th-century agricultural landscape and terraced gardens, and miles of woodland trails to view and hike daily.
