Who We Are
Tucked away in a quiet corner of coastal Virginia is an architectural masterpiece, the centerpiece of a museum and engaging historical site dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of eighteenth-century Virginia history. This National Historic Landmark, the 1735 Christ Church, is in near-original condition and is one of America's great buildings. Visitors can explore this stunning edifice and discover museum exhibits and artifacts related to the social and political world of colonial Virginia, the lives of the Carters and ordinary parishioners, and the preservation of the church. The museum also offers a research library and high-quality gift shop and prides itself on being a leader in educational and community outreach programs for all ages.
What We Do
Christ Church has a history of bringing people together!
Volunteers are the backbone of Historic Christ Church & Museum. Their enthusiasm and dedication make it possible for us to open our doors, offer programs, and engage the community. Our Volunteer Council also plays a vital leadership role in advancing our vision for this nationally significant site.
Volunteering with us is both meaningful and rewarding. We take great pride in helping preserve one of colonial America’s most important buildings, enjoy spending time on the beautiful church grounds, and welcome visitors from the local region, across the nation, and around the world. Volunteer life here is not all work. We offer a wide range of educational and social activities, including continuing education programs, an annual speaker series featuring nationally recognized scholars, musical performances, bus trips to historic sites, a book club, living history presentations, hands-on children’s programs, parties, receptions, and more. Most of all, volunteers value the friendships and camaraderie they build here.
We are seeking community members to help preserve and celebrate the unique history of Historic Christ Church & Museum and the special quality of life in the Northern Neck. A variety of volunteer roles are available, with flexible scheduling throughout the year.
If you would like to meet new friends, share a skill or love of history, learn through our programs, and contribute a few hours of your time, we would love to hear from you. Please call (804) 438-6855 or email info@christchurch1735.org, and we will follow up soon.
