Volunteer: Explorer Shallop Volunteers at Oyster Festival

Step aboard history! The Deltaville Maritime Museum is seeking several volunteers to help with the Explorer, our full-scale replica of Captain John Smith’s shallop. This is a unique opportunity to share its story at Oyster Festival Weekend (November 6, 7 & 8). Meet visitors and share local history at our museum exhibit & dockside display! (Urbanna Town Docks).

Volunteer Opportunities:

Thursday, November 6Education Day: Assist Team Leaders with student groups and educational activities.

Friday & Saturday, November 7–8 – Assist Team Leaders throughout the day by greeting visitors and interpreting the Explorer exhibit throughout the day.
(Flexible shifts available — we’d love to have volunteers rotate as schedules allow!)

Any amount of time or support is greatly appreciated. No experience necessary. We will train you "on the job".  Please let us know your availability.

We're looking for a friendly, energetic volunteer to join us as a Market Runner at Holly Point's Holiday Gift Market! This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being outdoors, helping others, and being part of a vibrant community event. Responsibilities include: Assisting with tent setup and breakdown. Guiding vendors to their designated spaces. Running errands for the market office. Providing general support wherever needed during the market.

Requirements: Ability to lift and carry light equipment. A helpful attitude and good communication skills. Reliability and punctuality on market days.

Do you love bringing smiles to young faces and making a lasting impact? We're seeking enthusiastic, patient, and caring volunteers to assist with children's activities in a fun, welcoming environment. Whether it's leading games, crafting imaginative art projects, reading stories, or simply offering a helping hand, your presence will help create memorable moments that children will treasure.

What you’ll do: Supervise and engage with kids during structured and free playtime. Assist in organizing and running games, crafts, and educational activities. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive space for kids to grow and explore. Support program staff and contribute to event setup and cleanup.

What we’re looking for: Passion for working with children. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Reliability, energy, and a warm heart. No special experience needed—just your willingness to help! Assist with minor maintenance tasks (e.g., oiling wood, checking lines, clearing debris) Coordinate with museum staff for larger restoration needs. Engage with visitors to share the history and significance of the boat. Help prepare the vessel for special events or educational programs

We periodically need volunteers to clean specific equipment in the kitchen service area. 

We hosted the Taste of Middlesex Festival this past weekend, and we currently need help with cleaning three ovens. Two of the ovens are convection, one is gas. 

If anyone or any group can give a couple hours here and there to clean these three ovens, that would be greatly appreciated.
