Description

Would you like to increase your knowledge of colonial history and Christ Church, while engaging with visitors and other volunteers who share your love of history? You could educate and inspire large groups of adult visitors to HCC&M by conducting specially-arranged tours while dressed in 18th century style clothing. Enjoy flexible scheduling and wearing period-appropriate attire!  We have a full closet of period clothing for you to choose from. 

Qualifications:

  • Love of history and a willingness to learn about HCC&M and the Carter family.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups.
  • Ability to modify the presentation to fit the interests and time constraints of a group.
  • Willingness to wear 18th century attire in any season (can be quite hot or chilly as the Church is not temperature controlled).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead pre-arranged group tours for civic clubs, churches, travel organizations, etc.
  • Answer questions from visitors as they tour the museum
  • Understand the themes and content of The Red Book: A Guide to Historic Christ Church

Time Commitment:

  • Groups are scheduled on demand during the April - November season.
  • Frequency of tours varies greatly, from 1 tour a month to 3 tours a day.

Training and Support:

  • Spring Update & Training is strongly encouraged (3 days in March or early April).
  • The Red Book, tour talking points, and shadowing opportunities are provided.
  • Other learning options include the Red Book Roundtable, HCC&M lecture series & field trips.
