Volunteer: Urbanna Oyster Festival VolunteeringUrbanna Oyster Festival is one of the world’s oldest festivals dedicated to these prized shellfish and draws over 50,000 visitors from across Virginia and beyond. You can experience the festival in a whole new way by helping FOR recycle as much oyster shell from the event as possible!By supporting oyster shell recycling you are helping reduce waste, restore our oyster reefs, and keep our water clean!There are a variety of shift times throughout Friday and Saturday so there is something for everyone.
RSVP HERE on signup genius DAY OF DETAILSThis will be a fairly passive volunteering event, where we are monitoring and checking in with our partners who are selling oysters. When bushel baskets are full, we load them into a cart and bring them to a trailer where we dump the shell, then bring the baskets back to the vendor. This allows time for you to enjoy the Festival, connect with partners, and FOR staff! Meet up at Premier Sailing 744 St Andrews Ln, Weems, VA 22576 FOR staff will guide you through the process of creating a bag of oyster shell – please note this requires working together to move baskets that may weigh up to 50 pounds! Please dress for the weather, and wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring water and snacks as needed! CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGEDRSVP HERE and fill out THIS WAIVER before attending!
