Opportunities From: Volunteer River Counties

Volunteer: Home Construction Volunteers

Looking for a fun and rewarding way to give back to your community? Join the Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity team as a home construction volunteer! No experience is necessary—just bring your willingness to learn and a desire to make a difference. You'll work alongside passionate volunteers and our future homeowners, helping build a safe and affordable home for two families in need. Whether you come for a day or the duration of the build, your time and energy will help build more than just a home—you’ll be building hope. Sign up today and be part of something truly meaningful!  We have selected our next two build sites in Northumberland County and are in the process of conducting preconstruction activities.  We will need many volunteers to assist us starting around February 2026.  Please bear with us while we complete this process and once completed we will reach out to interested volunteers with the details.  Build days are on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8 to noon.

Volunteer: Join Our Habitat for Humanity Donation Pickup Crew!

Lancaster/Northumberland Habitat for Humanity is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Donation Pickup Crew! Every Wednesday, the crew collects donations from homes throughout Lancaster and Northumberland counties.

This is a hands-on role that involves lifting furniture and other household items, so being in good physical condition is important. If you enjoy staying active and giving back to your community, this is a great way to do both!

Interested in helping?
Contact Dick Bennett at 703-403-4653 or email Dick at bennett@american.edu to learn more or sign up.  We pick up donations on Wednesdays and the crew meets at the Habitat Restore at 9AM at the Habitat Restore at 460 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, VA (next to Sal’s Pizza).

Your time and energy help build homes — and hope — right here in our community!
