Description

Do you have a drawer full of T-shirts from your favorite college or memorable trips?  If so, let Jan Jackson and
Kathy Gold teach you how to make a T-Shirt quilt to turn that unused pile of shirts into a keep-sake quilt that can hang on the wall or keep loved ones warm.  This class will be on three Fridays so you will have time in class to learn techniques then return home to complete that step before returning for the next class.

Students will need to have sewing experience and provide:
  • A sewing machine in good working order
  • 9 or more uncut t-shirts depending on the size of quilt desired
  • Fabric for sashing – connecting the stabilized t-shirt squares- approximately 2 to 3 yards
  • Sewing thread
  • Sharp 8″ dressmaker shears or similar scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • A rotary cutter (45 or 60mm), cutting mat and plastic cutting ruler/square 6″ x 24″ or similar
  • Pins – patchwork pins preferred
  • Water-soluble fabric marking pens
  • Ball-point sewing machine needles – size 80 or 90
The instructors will provide the correct stabilizer for the back of each t-shirt.

Your instructors will be Kathy Gold, president of the Tavern Quilt Guild and Jan Jackson.  Jannette (Jan) Jackson has been a quilter since the mid 1970’s.  She is a former Northern Virginia quilt shop owner and quilt teacher.  As a shop owner, she attended numerous well
known national quilting instructors.  Jan is also a longarm quilter and can guide you in the techniques of making a top that will finish well.  Kathy has been quilting since 2013, when she made her first quilt for her daughter’s wedding.
