Who We Are

Northumberland County’s volunteer public safety agencies are the foundation of emergency response within our community.

For generations, these organizations have served as trusted, mission-driven partners dedicated to protecting life, property, and the overall well-being of the residents and visitors of Northumberland County. Rooted in a tradition of service, sacrifice, and community stewardship, our volunteer agencies represent the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and local commitment.

Each agency operates as an independent organization with its own leadership, governance, and internal policies, while collectively functioning as an integrated component of the County’s public safety system. Our volunteer fire and rescue partners ensure consistent, reliable, and effective emergency services across all areas of the County.

Our partner volunteers are highly trained, dedicated individuals who balance personal, professional, and family responsibilities while answering the call to serve. Their local knowledge, community relationships, and operational expertise are critical to timely and effective emergency response, particularly in a rural and geographically diverse environment such as Northumberland County

Together, Northumberland County’s volunteer public safety agencies form a resilient, community-based network committed to readiness, coordination, and continuous improvement. United by a shared mission and strengthened through collaboration, these agencies remain essential partners in delivering high-quality public safety services and safeguarding the future of our community.

What We Do

Northumberland County’s volunteer public safety parters deliver essential emergency response and life-safety services to the community through a coordinated, countywide system of fire protection, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and disaster response. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, these agencies provide rapid, professional responses to emergencies ranging from medical incidents and fires to motor vehicle collisions, severe weather events, and other hazards that impact public safety.

Working in close coordination with the Department of Emergency Services, they support system-wide preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery efforts, contributing to a unified approach to emergency management.

Beyond emergency response, Northumberland County’s volunteer public safety partners play a critical role in community risk reduction and public education. This includes participation in fire prevention initiatives, emergency preparedness outreach, and efforts aimed at reducing preventable injuries, property loss, and loss of life. Their presence within the community strengthens public trust and enhances situational awareness before, during, and after emergencies.

Collectively, Northumberland County’s volunteer public safety partners ensure that emergency services are delivered efficiently, responsibly, and in alignment with the County’s public safety objectives. Through collaboration, continuous improvement, and a shared commitment to service, they provide the operational capability necessary to protect the community and respond effectively to both routine and extraordinary incidents.
