Friends of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter

Who We Are

Friends of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter (FNCAS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter (NCAS). We are a no-kill animal shelter in a county with limited access to affordable veterinary care.  In addition to caring for homeless pets, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home abandoned, stray, and surrendered cats and dogs.  Promoting responsible pet ownership through education and community outreach is one of our core values.

What We Do

The NCAS receives no county funding for medical expenses (medicines, surgeries, vaccinations) or shelter improvements. Despite the Friends committed work to secure monetary donations it is never enough to cover all the expenses for our shelter.  In addition to donations, our shelter relies heavily on the proceeds from the Thrift Shop and on the volunteer staff to care for our animals. Our dedicated volunteers assist with Thrift Shop staffing as well as feeding, bathing, cleaning kennels, socializing, vet visits, adoption events, and fostering vulnerable animals until they are ready to return to the shelter.  All of our animas are spayed/neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted.  Our goal is to nurture our cats and dogs until they are ready to be placed in permanent, loving homes.
